The Art Of The Blues: Joanne Shaw Taylor Live In New York

Written by:

I got a chance to see Joanne Shaw Taylor live at the Iridium in New York City the other night (5/28) and the show was fabulous.

The British-born singer/songwriter is a brilliant guitar player and during her set she played a series of tracks from her new album–and sixth overall–Reckless Heart.

A winner of two British Blues Awards, Taylor recorded Reckless Heart in Detroit with producer Al Sutton (Bob Seger, Greta Van Fleet) and as a result, the album has a raw and gritty feel. But her performance was even grittier–filled with bluesy muscle and rootsy grit, Taylor is a performer of tremendous depth and soul. Tracks like “The Best Thing” and “Wrecking Ball” were achingly perfect and flanked by a tight and killer band, Taylor played loose and free, showcasing her impressive technical dexterity.

No stranger to the road, Taylor has been touring for the last decade and she’s currently making her way across the United States in support of her latest effort.
