The Stone Roses have broken up.
Although a much quieter affair than their original split or the high profile press conference that heralded their return in 2011, after the legendary Manchester band played a series of high profile shows last week–including one at Wembley in front of 90,000 people–they have appeared to bang the drums of retirement.
“Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened,” singer Ian Brown told a stunned sold-out Glasgow crowd in Hampden Park on Saturday.
The cryptic comment has been unconfirmed by the band’s management, but Reni’s son, who was filming his dad’s band from the crowd on Saturday, told those near him that it would be the last Stone Roses gig ever.
What has been confirmed is that Brown is working on his first solo album in almost a decade.
