Montreal, Canada-located indie rock band The Franklin Electric, led by singer-songwriter Jon Matte, returns with its highly anticipated second album, Blue Ceilings, and premieres the video for “Burning Flame” right here.
The video for “Burning Flame”, which was directed by Ryley Burghall and produced by The Field Inc., focuses on sincere, youthful infatuation and heart-rending rejection, all within the milieu of a small hometown diner. The male lead works in the kitchen of the café and stares through the order window, captivated by the waitress on the other side. Eventually the pair begins to form a connection while sharing music in the alleyway during break.
The downbeat atmosphere ramps up when the kitchen worker catches the waitress in the arms of a co-worker. The ensuing meltdown is explosive as the protagonist dashes ceramic plates against the floor and runs at full speed along the side of the highway.
“Burning Flame” captures the feeling of surprise rejection and the pain of being led on to a dead end. The song’s soulful harmonies, spare drum beats, and emotive chord progressions make the video all the more heart-breaking.
