Today’s Track of The Day comes from Los Angeles’ alternative rock outfit Viva Death.
“Ready To Go” is the first single off the band’s upcoming Illuminate LP, which is slated for release next week (10/26), via Functional Equivalent Recordings.
And it rocks!
The album is a loud and rather ambitious 14-track offering, armed with a fistful of absolutely original American alternative rock bullets. Having started as a baritone-guitar driven project spearheaded by Scott Shiflett and Trever Keith of Face to Face, the lineup came to also include Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), omnipresent drummer Josh Freese (The Vandals, Devo, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer), and producer
extraordinaire Chad Blinman (Face To Face, Jarboe, Faith and The Muse, Saves The Day, The Get Up Kids). Talk about a team with deep musical origins! Unsurprisingly, this is a band that plays pure and original alternative rock that comes with a very compact sound and angular production.
Viva Death has recorded a record for the restless and Illuminate aims straight at the heart and hits it square in the center with heavy riffs, sing-along refrains, inspired break-downs, feral pounding, speed, passion, and glory.
“We’ve covered a lot of ground with Viva Death – surprising for a project that started almost by accident. On this record, I wanted to go more personal than before…We wanted to draw the listener in closer, but push the extremes farther in every direction,” says Shiflett in a press release for the record.
Keep Up With Viva Death
