Earlier this summer, Philadelphia’s experimental indie-rock duo Tulipomania released their brand new Off The Map/ On the Outside (Spinello Remix) maxi-single, via Sursumcorda Records.
It’s the third time this very talented Philadelphia outfit has offered in the b-side a remix of their previous maxi-single title, which is a very creative way to keep their fame alive while we wait for a new LP.
Tulipomania plays indie-rock in a quite a wide field, experimenting with shoegaze with distinctive dream-pop vocals. They have their own unique trademark style that finds me replaying their songs over and over after every release. I love their musical conflicts and contrasts and as you’ll notice, this creative team easily takes their songs through hazy and angular soundcapes in an engaging and cinematic way.
Speaking of their cinematic ways, the video for “Off the Map” has been chosen as an Official Selection at the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York, UK. Described as “artistic and inventive” and “gorgeous” the clip has been featured in many other film festivals worldwide, including the London Short Film Festival (England), Leeds International Film Festival (England), Aesthetica Short Film Festival (York, England), Encounters (Bristol, England), Zubroffka (Poland), StopTrik (Croatia, Poland), Brooklyn Film Festival (USA), and Animation Block Party (USA).
The b-side remix of “On The Outside” was helmed by the London-based producer and remixer Spinello (Shane Woolman) who ungrudgingly gave a darker and more dubby boost to the original. Spinello also offers one more instrumental remix to the song where he experiments with dub techniques in automation and lays a spooky atmosphere over its grooves.
Keep Up With Tulipomania
