Rising up out of the tiny town of Bendigo, Australia (approx. 50 miles north of Melbourne), the pair of musicians that comprise Fountaineer – Francis and Anthony White, handling drums and lead vox/guitar respectively – cite Johnny Cash’s American recordings and Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus as guiding lights which, in a providential piece of inadvertent happenstance, resulted in what we here at SEM hear as a sort of jumped up, cleaned up, and indie-fied update of Suicide. That VU pulse, the proto-Spector pop sense, it’s all there in a track that does nothing but rather cruelly prime us for a full-length. Welcome to the big time, Fountaineer, we’re all yours…
