Stereo Embers’ Track of the Day comes from one of our all-time favorite artists Statuesque.
The band’s braintrust Stephen Manning is a colossal talent and his songs are rapid fire dispatches rife with verbal acuity. They also boast some of the catchiest choruses you’re likely to run into.
Manning tell us that Statuesque’s new album Introversial, “…is being finished off at the moment,” and should be available in July.
In the meantime, the album’s first single is a killer–it’s a lilting and thoughtful number that finds the narrator taking a long look at his life and wondering how he didn’t see everything moving past him until it was too late. Manning’s existential examination of the durability of personal philosophy and how quickly we can get pushed aside by ruthless, competing forces makes for one of the most compelling singles of the year.
Imagine Robyn Hitchcock reading Henry James’ “The Beast In The Jungle.”
Yes, it’s that good.
