From the frequent historic hotspot Buenos Aires, this epic slice of lush, azure, darkwaved beauty is pretty much unprecedented this year. At least we here at SEM haven’t heard anything quite this beguiling. Like an Andes-shadowed Sigur Rós infected by a strain of MBV shoegazed post-punk itself imbued with a layer of European mystique, this is our idea of what people mean when they say a band ‘has a very unique sound.’ Rather arriving out of a warm but somehow icy-blue nowhere, we declare Yama Sun the sound of the future, a place that, should it sound like this, we can only but hope that we’re all hurtling headlong towards. Whatever the case, it’s always nice to be breathtaken by surprise.
