Originating from the home of the Nightingales (Birmingham, England), the band Semantics offers a moody slice of thoughtful, indie-hypnotic post-punk that traverses the territory between heartfelt, fog-shrouded and moor-inflected mysterious and the uber-urban cutting edge. We hear the tremble of Echo, we hear the stalk of the Stranglers at their most melodically menacing. You may very well hear something different, but we here at SEM are pretty sure that whatever you hear, you’ll be at least as transfixed as we’ve been the past couple of weeks while this single has gotten the ‘repeat’ treatment on the office stereo. Good to see some young Brummies bringing it, we say.
