Described as a “hard-hitting feminist anthem,” we here at SEM can’t really improve upon that except to say that, as a package, video and single, we don’t think we’ve been quite as knocked out by a one-two punch as we have by this combination of uncompromising audio content and equally stunning video presentation in a very long time indeed. A fearless trio based out of Montreal – though formed originally in Calgary in 2007 – the threesome of Raphaelle Standell, Austin Tufts, and Taylor Smith, here on their third album (Deep In The Iris) have reached a point of collaborative strength that should ensure their continued ascent on to the world stage. We hear elements of PJ Harvey, St Vincent, Joni Mitchell, and a defiant soupçon of Björk in the lead single, and yikes what a video. Color us chilled and excited in equal measure.
