Jacco Gardner, the versatile, gilded Dutch multi-instrumentalist and auteur that has seemingly seeped into everyone’s consciousness over the past couple of years, has a new album on the near horizon called Hypnophobia (Polyvinyl) from which we offer the first single “Find Yourself.” Loping effortlessly along inside a stately but effecting structure that suggests “Heart of Gold” as interpreted by the Zombies, the track both upholds Gardner’s baroque pop bona fides and departs from it with an unmistakably earthier, up-to-date flavor, in the process creating a sound that’s an irresistible hybrid of the then and now, like some kind of post-modern anachronism. Whatever, it is, at the very least, crazy addictive. We keep getting to the end of this Soundcloud scan and immediately pulling the orange tide back to the beginning for one more glorious go, thinking as we do ‘Oh my but 2015’s already shaping up to be a banner year.’
