Third Eye Blind are back.
Barely a week after playing a benefit show for the charity “Musicians On Call” right outside the Republican National Convention, the San Francisco outfit Third Eye Blind have returned with a new single.
Their RNC-adjacent performance showed the band have a lot on their minds these days and much of it is political. Openly criticizing the Republican Party’s positions on vital social issues like LGBT rights, the band’s set was fiery and inspired and demonstrated their devotion to social justice.
Their new single “Cop Vs. Phone Girl” continues in the same political vein.
A modern-day protest song about police brutality, “Cop Vs. Phone Girl” tells the story of the Spring Valley High student in South Carolina who was beaten up by a campus police officer back in 2015.
On the track, singer Stephan Jenkins pilots the narrative with nerve and an indignant heart. He shadowboxes the beat with poise and dexterity and confidently pilots one of the most rousing choruses of the year.
The single is taken from the band’s upcoming We Are Drugs EP.
