Stereo Embers’ TRACK OF THE DAY: Static Shore’s “Friend”

Written by:

Seattle, Washington-based synth-pop/electronica duo Static Shore made landfall with its dream-pop-inflected second album Tides on April 7th. Songwriters Eric Smith and Shannon Alexander create engaging, uplifting to reflective compositions out of vocals, synth layers, and beats.

Tides comes quickly on the heels of 2016’s Life & Love in the Hologram and Smith and Alexander follow in the footsteps of such bands as Chvrches, Phantogram, and Purity Ring.

Title track and lead single “Friend” has flowed in with an accompanying video that features Alexander singing and the duo hanging out on an overpass. It’s a laid-back video that revels in the dazzling sunlight and the environmental divide between forest wilderness and human-made roads.

“Friend” is a sonically light, but vocally contemplative number with Alexander singing in a lushly airy, heartfelt tone amid brightly reverberating electronic blips and a steadily smacked beat.
