London-located indie soul-rock/pop duo Juke Jaxon has unveiled its new video for debut single “Memory Man”. Jack Moore and Ben Hawthorne formed Juke Jackson in the summer of 2014 and have been steadily building up a solid fan base due to their live performances and press raves for their first single. Moore and Hawthorne share a love for classic British rock and the 1960s Motown style and they blend the two music genres with sharp lyrics on the soulful, world-weary “Memory Man”.
In keeping with the portentous mood of the song, the video features an older man going on his daily rounds of walking the city streets and hanging out at the pub, interacting with strangers that he meets along the way. Eventually he connects with a younger man (A younger version of himself, either literally or figuratively? You decide!) and they drive off to the woods and, well, the upbeat lyrics “Memory man / …You changed the game / …You made me what I am today / Now I won’t lose my way…” end up turning quite mordantly bleak!
Continue reading if you want to dispel the mysterious nature of the characters and their relationship in the video… Moore and Hawthorne shine a bright light on the video’s dark concept: “”Memory Man” is a personification of how much our lives can be… influenced by just a singular person. Being that the lyrics are quite personal, we wanted the video to capture that in the best way possible. We created a concept and pitched it out to a bunch of directors, and we loved the approach Lukasz came back with. He delivered a great concept with a few twists that allows the viewer to perceive it how they wish. In the video we follow the story of an older character who we learn is an assassin. He takes a young lad under his wing and trains him to be an assassin himself. The older character plants a seed for his future courage.”
