Stereo Embers’ TRACK OF THE DAY: The Battles Of Winter’s “Love’s White Thread”

Written by:

If you’ve had a chance to listen to my radio show “The Heart Goes Boom” then the name of the band who has our Track of the Day today will be more than familiar to you.

A staple on my program, The Battles Of Winter are one of my favorite new bands and one of the hardest things to figure out on a weekly basis is choosing which song of theirs I’ll be playing on the show.

Their 2014 effort Standing At The Floodgates was a debut that was filled with fiery menace. Backed by one of the finest rhythm sections around, singer Alistair Gale stalked the line between despair and desperation with a Darth Maul-like intensity. A deeply satisfying affair, the album showed that TBOW were a band to watch out for.

Their sophomore effort At Once With Tattered Sails is an album of aching and restless beauty. Filled with muscle, heart and pure Goth majesty, this is a record that should establish TBOW as one of the most arresting outfits on the planet.

“Love’s White Thread” is an utterly bewitching blast of dreamy post-punk that’s punctuated by jackhammer drums, a prowling bassline and Gray’s unmistakable dark croon.
