Minneapolis-based alternative folk/indie rock band Kazyak will return with a new release this summer entitled Happy Camping. Stereo Embers premieres today the opening salvo from that release, “Sacred Cow.” It’s a gentle, folk-tuned number with the direct message to simply ‘Be Yourself’. That’s easier said than done, but frontman Peter Frey’s vocals are so sincere that it does feel that easy.
One underlying theme that runs through Kazkak’s EP is that of someone making peace with his/her past. And that might be exactly what Frey was doing when he wrote them in Alaska while preparing for his upcoming wedding. In his own words, Frey says of “Sacred Cow”, and the EP in general, “It’s after you’ve put your pack on your back and set out walking down an unexplored trail, but before you’ve arrived to the foot of the mountain. This album is the long walk through the open field to the base of the mountain.”
Those in the Twin Cities are in luck as Kazyak will be playing new songs and old at Icehouse on Tuesday, June 13th. Happy Camping sees the light of day on July 21st.
