Spoon haven’t put a record out since 2014’s They Want My Soul, but it appears that album’s follow-up is on the way.
Here’s what we know so far:
- The Austin outfit’s ninth studio album is slated to come out in March, 2017.
- The as-yet-untitled record will find the band returning to Matador Records, who put out their debut album two decades ago.
- On December 11, during an episode of the Showtime series Shameless, a fragment of a Spoon song called “I Ain’t The One” was played.
- The piano-based number then appeared online in its entirety, but was later removed.
- On Dec 14 the band posted an x-ray of a skull in profile on their social media pages, leading some to speculate the image could be the album’s cover art.
- “I Ain’t The One” has been performed live by the band fairly recently, including at the Rainy Day Taxi Festival.
