It sure sounded good.
A story emerged yesterday that the late Pogues singer Shane MacGowan left behind a generous amount to cover the bar tab at his wake.
According to a report from The Independent, MacGowan earmarked €10,000 (or $12,500) for his friends and family to drink the night away at The Thatched Cottage in Nenagh after his Dec 8th funeral.
One of MacGowan’s drinking buddies told the outlet it was MacGowan’s last request.
It seemed to be on brand for MacGowan, but the story has been revealed to be false.
MacGowan’s widow Victoria Clarke tweeted: “I just want to say that @ShaneMacGowan did NOT make a last request to leave 10 k behind the bar, his last request was for peace and love in the world. Although we are certain that he would have approved of the beautiful funeral!”
