The Sextants have reunited to record a song for their fallen comrade, Bugs Salcido.
Hailing from Las Cruces, New Mexico, The Sextants’ Lucky You album, which was released in 1991 on Imago, was an instant classic. Singer Brennan Hester, along with his sister Lori, Matt Boudreau and Max Butler, played a stirring blend of rootsy pop that prefigured everyone from the Gin Blossoms to Counting Crows. Hester’s musical references ranged from Black Flag to The Byrds and Lucky You proved that he was one of the greatest young songwriters in America.
Although the band called it a day in the mid-90s, they’ve recently reunited to pay tribute to their friend Bugs Salcido.
On their Bandcamp page, the band writes: “Bugs Salcido was a friend, supporter and influence on all of us in The Sextants. He passed away on September 10th, 2014. This song that he wrote is our tribute to him. You may download it for free or pay whatever you choose. Any money collected will be passed on to his family. Rest in Peace Bugs, you will be missed. –Brennan, Matt, Max and Lori…”
