If you took the idea of Generation X’s “Dancing With Myself” and welded it via both sight and sound to a Kraftwerkian sub-structure imbued with the subtly hypnotic underpinnings of OMD we’re pretty damn sure you’d end up here, watching (and, at least as important, listening to) “Frictional,” the latest advance offering from the producer/engineer duo John Blonde and Chris Moore, currently DBA as A.M. Boys. And, really, beyond some bio-musigraphical details, that’s pretty much all you’ll need to know (except for the not insignificant detail that the track comes from new upcoming album Present Phase that drops May 16th, that’s the cover up top there). But, for those that want or need to know more – you know who you are (because you’re just like us) – let us throw some quick history at you, yeah?

With impressive CVs dating back fifteen-plus years – Blonde’s best known as the driving force behind House of Blondes that ran from the late aughts through the mid-2000 teens while Moore, in his role as producer/engineer, helped shepherd projects from the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, and some one-off duo with the last names ‘Bowie’ and ‘Johansson’ just to name a few – there’s nothing surprising about the quality of the sound or the avant-minimalism of the video that dares you to look away knowing full well you cannot. No, what’s surprising is that this lot isn’t already filling stadiums on bright, groove-addled Saturday afternoons that evolve deep into the ecstatic night.

So, get your slinky dance moves loosened up and ready, keep your mind fully engaged, and let yourself get lost in what’s already one of this year’s headiest-yet-most-solid instrumental tracks. Yeah, we here in the northern hemisphere may still be in the dead center middle of spring but one click on that video just below this sentence and voila! the promise of summer, glorious summer is right here upon us.
