Scottish Post-Punk Heroes The Jasmine Minks Return

Written by:

Aberdeen’s favorite sons The Jasmine Minks are back.

Formed in 1983, the ‘Minks are one of the most venerated indie rock bands of their era and whether it’s their scorching Creation Records 1984 debut (One Two Three Four Five Six Seven, All Good Preachers Go To Heaven, or the chiming anthems of their self-titled 1986 effort, their work is both timeless and canonical.

Although the band haven’t put out a full-length album since 2001’s Popartglory, the Scottish outfit has been active in recent years, putting out a handful of marvelous singles.

Adding to that stack of riches is the band’s new Double A-Side “Step By Step”/”Gravity.”

Led by the positively ageless vocals of Jim Shepherd, the Jasmine Minks sound as vital as ever. “Step by Step” jangles mightily away while the catchy call-and-response chorus of “Gravity” is sonorous post-punk at its finest.

The single is out in March, but is available to be pre-ordered through A Turntable Friend Records here.

In other Jasmine Minks news, the band will be a special guest of The Claim on March 23 at the 100 Club and on April 20 they’ll be playing the Islington 1 in London.
