Savages To Take A Break

Stereo Embers reported last month that the future of Savages appeared to be in doubt.

A source told SEM as early as September that the band’s future was “significantly in question” and in mid-November, rumors began to spread that the band was breaking up.

Savages played a triumphant show (11/25) at London’s Brixton’s Academy and during the performance singer Jehnny Beth told the sold-out crowd it would be, “the last Savages show for a while.”

Savages have always been a transparent band who’s agenda was made clear in the band-issued manifesto that accompanied their debut album Silence Yourself, but Beth’s comment was uncharacteristically murky and ambiguous.

In conversation with Loud & Quiet this week, Beth had this to say of the band’s future: “We’re going to take a break from Savages because we haven’t taken a break between the two records at all – we took a month, I remember”

As for what her plans are, she added: “I have a collaboration I have lined up, really cool stuff, which I can’t talk about now but some are going to be revealed in January. I think it’s going to be for me, collaborating with new people. I’ve kept writing a lot so I’ve got a lot of songs right now that I don’t know what I’m going to do with yet. They’re for something else, not Savages. Pursuing the collaborations where people have reached out and want to work with me, that’s what’s going to happen. I’m very excited.”
