Rumors are circulating that a reboot of The X-Files is in the works.
Not only that, but the reimagined iteration of the beloved series will be placed in the immensely capable hands of the Oscar-nominated director Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther).
In a conversation with Gloria Macarenko on her CBC program On The Coast, X-Files creator Chris Carter said: “I just spoke to a young man…Ryan Coogler…who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
The Oakland-born Coogler seems more than up to the task—his imaginative directing made films like Black Panther and its sequel Wakanda Forever two of the most visually arresting films in recent memory.
The X-Files, which debuted in September of 1993, had an eleven-season run and produced a total of 218 episodes. It made stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson household names and yielded two feature films.
