That was back in March of 1996 and by the end of that year the band would break up.
However, they re-formed in 2014 for a string of dates and from there, things kept building. Triumphant sets at Coachella, Primavera Sound Festival, and the Melt! Festival along with a sold-out U.S. tour found the Oxford outfit revitalized and creatively inspired.
This week DJ Erol Alkan announced that not only would there be a new Ride album, he would be producing it. Alkan, who produced records by Late Of The Pier, The Long Blondes and Mystery Jets, is a well-known techno DJ who has remixed numbers by everyone from Bloc Party to Interpol to Hot Chip.
Alkan posted a shot of the band on Instagram along with the caption: “Currently in the studio with Ride producing their forthcoming album.”
Unlike Oasis or The Stone Roses, Ride’s breakup was not one punctuated by acrimony–the band members remained friends after the band had called it a day.
Ride’s new album will be out late next year.
