R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, Bill Berry and Mike Mills Get Together To Play “Superman”

Well, this makes us very happy.

R.E.M. alums Bill Berry, Mike Mills and Peter Buck got together the other night at a Minus 5 gig and knocked the hell out of “Superman.”

Playing at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, the Minus 5–who often have Buck in their lineup–got 3/4 of R.E.M. onstage to play a cover of The Clique’s 1969 number. The track also closes R.E.M.’s Lifes Rich Pageant record.

In a recent interview with the CBC, Michael Stipe revealed that all of the members of R.E.M. are still very close and see each other often.

Stipe was the conspicuous absence on stage, but his not being there was surely the only way to quash reunion rumors, which certainly would have been flying across the internet had he joined his former bandmates.

The Minus 5 also had Buck and Mills lend a hand to their cover of Camper Van Beethoven’s “The Ambiguity Song” which also featured another surprise guest–Camper’s David Lowery.
