Prince has announced that he will release two new records in September.
The legendary singer/songwriter’s 37th album Art Official Age will be released concurrently with Plectrum Electrum, the debut album from his new band 3rd Eye Girl.
Comprised of Donna Grantis, Hannah Ford Welton, and Ida Nielsen, 3rd Eye Girl have acted in the past as Prince’s backing band.
Notably, Art Official Age marks the 56-year-old Prince’s return to Warner Bros. Records, who he was originally signed with, but ended up railing against for years.
However, in spite of his shaky past with one of the largest corporate labels in the world, all appears calm between the two parties. In fact, a statement made by Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Cameron Strang confirms the alliance is no longer severed: “Prince is one of just a handful of visionary artists who have truly reshaped and redefined modern music and culture,” he said. “For the past 35 years, he has never stopped evolving, challenging himself, reinventing his sound, and pushing boundaries. In true Prince fashion, he has just given us not one, but two extraordinary albums that express the incredible range and depth of his talent.”
