If you were surprised to learn that longtime Primus drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander quit the band, imagine how the members of Primus felt.
Blindsided by the news of Alexander’s sudden departure, the legendary Bay Area outfit are scrambling to find a replacement.
Early this week Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde revealed that Alexander had left the band, having emailed his bandmates to tell them he was done playing “effective immediately.”
In a statement posted by the band, Claypool and LaLonde said: “It came as a complete shock to all of us here in the Primus camp.”
They went on to say: “On the heels of a wonderful spring & summer of touring and some fabulous plans ahead, it has been a bit bewildering for us that Herb would so abruptly opt out. After several attempts to communicate with Herb, his only response was another email stating that he has ‘lost his passion for playing.’ As disappointing as that is, we respect his choice.”
Alexander joined Primus in 1989, replacing Jay Lane.
