Written by:

The Pixies have revealed they will be releasing a brand new album called Head Carrier on September 30.  Here are ten things to know about one of the year’s most exciting and unexpected releases.

  1. Head Carrier will contain twelve new tracks.
  2. The album was produced by Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood).
  3. It was recorded at London’s Rak Studios earlier this year.
  4. The first single is “Um Chagga Lagga” and it can be heard here:
  5. The artwork for Head Carrier was done by Vaughan Oliver who has handled the art direction for Pixies albums for years.
  6. There will be a limited edition box set version of the record, which will feature the CD, 180 gram black vinyl, a nearly 30 page booklet with lyrics and artwork by Oliver.
  7. To support Head Carrier, The Pixies will embark on a comprehensive world tour that will be punctuated by a solid European leg which will begin November 15th in Vienna.
  8. This record marks the official permanent member status of new(ish) bassist Paz Lenchantin. Lenchantin has been with the band since 2014, and sings lead on the new song “All I Think About Now.” The song was written by Paz and frontman Black Francis.
  9. In a press release announcing the record, Lenchantin had this to say: “I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal…There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals. I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie.  We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward.”
  10. Head Carrier’s track listing is as follows: Head Carrier, Classic Masher, Baal’s Back, Might As Well Be Gone, Oona, Talent, Tenement Song, Bel Esprit, All I Think About Now, Um Chagga Lagga, Plaster Of Paris, All The Saints.
