Friends and family of the Oakland arts community are still reeling from last week’s fire at the Ghost Ship artist’s collective warehouse, which claimed the lives of 36 people.
The night of the incident, Ghost Ship was holding a concert that was sponsored by 100% Silk, which is known primarily as a house music label.
Casualties ranged from students to artists to radio hosts. Members of the bands Introflirt, Nightmom, Pacific Boychoir and Them Are Us Too were also killed in the flames.
Although the cause of the fire is not known–an arson investigation is currently underway–what is known is that the tragedy has brought the community together. The A’s, the Raiders and The Golden State Warriors have all made donations for relief efforts and the outpouring of support and love for those lost in the fire and those they left behind has been overwhelming.
Today Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment teamed up with Paradigm Agency in Oakland to announce Oakland United, which, according to a statement will be, “A night of remembrance and community.”
The event will feature performances by The Coup, Primus, Rogue Wave, Beats Antique’s Sidecar Tommy, Dan Deacon, Thao Nguyen, tUnE-yArDs and more.
All proceeds of the benefit will go to the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts Oakland Fire Relief Fund.
The show will be Wednesday, December 14th.
