Brittany Howard fans probably never thought they’d celebrate the singer’s birthday with her, but that’s exactly what happened the other night (10/2) at the Capitol Theater in New York.
The Grammy Award-winning musician shared both her birthday and her winning songbook with the adoring crowd and every second was utterly inspiring.
Touring behind her 2024 effort What Now, Howard’s set was filled with soulful precision, rootsy swagger and riveting R&B.
Numbers like “Earth Sign” and “He Don’t” were decidedly captivating, while the crowd-pleasing “Red Flags” was nothing short of stirring. Elsewhere, “He Loves Me” and “Baby” were enthralling blasts of bluesy bliss, while “Georgia” was utterly mesmerizing.
Howard is an engaging performer of tremendous power and grace and her voice effortlessly soared through the legendary Port Chester venue.
Howard’s co-headlining tour with her pal, the British-Ugandan singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka is a dream billing and it was one of the most satisfying live shows I’ve seen in a long time.
