Nanci Griffith has died.
The Texas-born Grammy Award Winner, who died in Nashville, was 68.
Griffith’s management company, Gold Mountain Entertainment issued this statement on the folk singer’s passing: “It was Nanci’s wish that no further formal statement or press release happen for a week following her passing.”
Griffith won a Grammy in 1994 for her album Other Voices, Other Rooms.
A songwriter of tremendous depth and observational acumen, Griffith won the Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award from the Americana Music Association in 2008.
Her songs were recorded by everyone from Suzy Bogguss to Kathy Mattea to Bette Midler. She also recorded duets with a wide range of performers, including Darius Rucker, Adam Duritz and John Prine.
Over the course of her career Griffith recorded 18 studio albums, including her latest, 2021’s Intersection.
