Mike Watt will be joining Porno For Pyros for their farewell tour.
The legendary bassist will join PFP original members Perry Farrell, guitarist Peter DiStefano and drummer Stephen Perkins for the band’s string of valedictory dates.
When the tour was first announced it was done so without name-checking who would be playing bass. Some speculated original bassist Martyn LeNoble would be on board, but those speculations went unanswered for months.
A known naturalist who spends a great deal of time in nature and off the grid, LeNoble, according to Farrell, had plans to head out on an extended nature trek during the band’s final 16-date run, making him unavailable to join his PFP alums on stage.
Which is where Watt comes in.
Farrell revealed this week that Watt would be on board. Farrell sang Watt’s praises, declaring him to be one of the all-time greats. He told Heavy Consequence: “Mike Watt is in my estimation one of the greatest bass players of all time. And an alumni. But he’s got two very bad knees. He can’t even stand through a set – so he’s sitting now. He walks with a cane. But he just did a tour, it was like 60 shows in 60 days, and he drives himself there. He’s hardcore. So, I’m very excited about playing with him.”
