“Masters Of Sex” the Emmy-nominated series that’s based on the lives of the trailblazing human sexuality team of William Masters and Virginia Johnson has been cancelled.
The critically-acclaimed series–which was in part based on Thomas Maier’s biography–ran for four seasons, with the last episode of Season 4 running two weeks ago.
In the last episode the duo of Masters and Johnson–played by Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan–got married and their nuptials will be where the series ends.
According to Deadline, “Masters Of Sex had been a prestige but modest ratings performer for Showtime. Season 4 averaged less than 800,000 in Live+3 while its lead-in, first Ray Donovanand then Shameless, both drew more than 2 million (L+3) each week. Across multiple platforms, Masters of Sex Season Four is averaging 2.16 million viewers.”
