Marty Willson Piper’s First Solo Album In Reflection To Be Released On Vinyl For Record Store Day

Marty Willson-Piper has revealed his first solo album In Reflection will be available on vinyl for Record Store Day.

Recorded on a Teac A3440 four-track machine between 1983 and 1985 and released in a limited quantity through Chase Records in Australia, the stripped-down, thirteen-track album is a collection of understated pop riches.

In the original liner notes from 1987, Willson-Piper wrote: “This record contains a lot of interesting quirks and personality traits all of its own…I hope this album will convince people that great music is not big- money or big-promotion or big-studios but the special feeling that, I believe, this record has captured. Sometimes restriction can be a great asset.”

On social media today, Willson-Piper fondly recalls of the album: “It was recorded in my flat in Bondi Beach with very primitive resources, including the Sydney Morning Herald as a snare drum. It’s a curio, and instead of approaching it as demos for a later project, I just did it as properly as possible with adventurous overdubbing and the pots and pans of a Bondi flat, without imagining for a moment that I would be recording the songs again in a proper studio environment.”

In Reflection will be released by Schoolkids Records and will contain an extensive booklet with an enhanced gatefold sleeve and updated liner notes.

The digital copy of In Reflection can be purchased through Bandcamp.
