Legendary shoegaze heroes Lush delighted their fans with their recent reunion announcement, but the good news doesn’t stop there.
The band will release a new EP called Blind Spot this April and reportedly a new album will follow.
Blind Spot features four new songs, all recorded in the summer of 2015 with Daniel Hunt (Ladytron) and Jim Abbiss.
This marks Lush’s first new recorded music in twenty years.
Formed in 1987, the London outfit were one of the first bands to be labeled as shoegaze and their introspective lyrics juxtaposed with layers of feedback-drenched instrumentation brought to mind everyone from the Jesus and Mary Chain to Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Their landmark 1992 album Spooky remains a modern classic. Awash in fury and sadness, it sounds like a series of open letters from an anguished heart.
Lush’s singer Emma Anderson also revealed on Facebook a few weeks ago that the band would be playing Coachella: “Really chuffed to announce Lush are going to be playing at this year’s Coachella Festival in Southern California this Spring. The dates we are playing are the 16th and 23rd April – the same dates as Guns N’ Roses and Ice Cube (though I doubt we’ll be writing on Ice Cube’s dressing room mirror as we did back in 1992)….”
“It certainly took some time to set up,” singer/guitarist Miki Berenyi said in a statement about how Blind Spot came together. “But,” she continued, “once we were in the studio, everything came together incredibly quickly.” Berenyi also added: “It was great fun! It’s been a long time since I’ve written Lush lyrics, and I realized early on with this EP that what I wrote about then is not what I feel comfortable writing about now. My perspective, and what is close to my heart, has changed, and I think that’s conveyed in the songs.”
Blind Spot Track List:
“Out of Control”
“Lost Boy”
“Burnham Beaches”
“Rosebud”
