Lorde’s fans believe she might have just tipped her hand and revealed new music is on the way for 2024.

Although this theory is just a case of reading between the lines on Instagram, fans of the New Zealand singer/songwriter were abuzz this weekend when Lorde posted a headphone-clad photo of herself accompanied by the inscription: “Listening to myself.”

The 27-year-old Lorde hasn’t put an album out since 2021’s Solar Power and many believe her fourth effort is on the way, but given Lorde’s release pattern, the math isn’t looking too hopeful. Lorde’s albums have all come with a four year gap between releases: Her debut Pure Heroine was in 2013, the follow-up Melodrama was out in 2017 and four years later Solar Power arrived. If Lorde sticks to her pattern, the new album should be out in 2025.

Even Lorde herself threw cold water on her fan’s speculation, writing on one fan page who noted she’d swapped out the Solar Power cover art on her profile: “We’re not CLOSE close you guys .. i’m just getting so hype n needed to let u know…start ur excitement on a low flame and bring it up to a gentle simmer .. we building stamina for this chapter.”
