Christmas can be hard on metal bands.
And their vans.
Especially their vans.
The Portland metal outfit Lord Dying have found themselves stuck in Illinois after their van broke down, leaving the band members with no way to get home for Christmas.
Sounds a bit like a John Hughes script meets Spinal Tap, but it’s the truth.
In fact, yesterday the band posted on Facebook: “Hey everyone, We’re still in Illinois trying to figure out the best option to get us and our gear home. Looks like the old van is toast and we may need to buy a new one. Thanks for all your support!”
And today’s update was a little more specific about their predicament: “Hey guys, Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. We’re still in Illinois. The old van is toast, it will cost more to fix than it’s worth. So we are now out looking for a new van on Christmas eve, fingers crossed we find one on the cheap…Being in a metal band touring the country is definitely not a quick way to get rich, to say the least. We do it because we love playing music and meeting all of you out on the road. That being said, we are truly humbled by everyone‘s generosity. We can’t thank you all enough and appreciate everyone donating and spreading the word.”
