Kevin “Geordie” Walker, who was one of the founding members of the legendary post-punk band Killing Joke, has died.
The British-born guitarist was 64.
Walker died in Prague, two days after suffering a stroke.
An inventive and unorthodox guitarist, Walker played with muscle and nerve, each chord blast of focused intensity. Influenced by everyone from Dave Edmunds to John McKay (Siouxsie and the Banshees), Walker became one of the most influential guitarists of his generation.
In addition to playing with Killing Joke, Walker was also in the bands Murder, Inc and The Damage Manual.
Killing Joke paid tribute to Walker on the band’s Facebook page, writing, “It is with extreme sadness we confirm that at 6:30am on 26th November 2023 in Prague, Killing Joke’s legendary guitarist Kevin “Geordie” Walker passed away after suffering a stroke, he was surrounded by family. We are devastated. Rest In Peace brother.”
