After a series of head-fakes, Kendrick Lamar has announced the official release date of his new record.
The latest head-fake came in a line from “The Heart Part 4” where Lamar warned, “Y’all got ’til April the 7th to yet y’all shit together.”
With a Coachella-headlining slot looming a week from that date, many felt Lamar was wisely letting his fans know intertextually that the album would drop on the 7th.
But no such luck.
The date that Lamar cited in the song referred to when pre-orders could be made.
Subterfuge and the misreading of hints aside, Lamar has announced that the follow up to his winning To Pimp A Butterfly album will be out April 14. Although it’s only two days before his Coachella gig, Lamar seems to feel that’s ample time for his fans to familiarize themselves with his new work.
The album will contain 14 tracks, two of which have already leaked: the aforementioned “The Heart Part 4” and “Humble.”
