We’re pretty psyched about the debut of “Jessica Jones.”
Krysten Ritter plays the fallen superhero who now battles crime working as a private detective.
She also drinks. A lot.
Adorned in biker boots, blue jeans and a black leather jacket, Jones is promiscuous, irritable and foul-mouthed.
She’s also living with PTSD and the series perfectly captures the toll it takes on her psyche.
The series also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Mike Colter and David Tennant.
All thirteen episodes can be streamed now on Netflix.
Eleven Things You Didn’t Know about Jessica Jones
1.The Jessica Jones character was first seen in the Marvel Comics series Alias in 2001. The creators of “Jessica Jones,” Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, originally wanted Jessica Drew–Spider-Woman–to be the star of the Alias comic book series, but due to conflicts with continuity, an original character was created.
2. Jessica Jones’s character is only 14 years old. The first Alias comic was published in 2001
3. Jessica Jones went to the same high school as Peter Parker and had a crush on him. We probably won’t see a relationship between Jones and Spider-Man any time soon due to the new Spidey casting; Tom Holland plays a 15-year-old version of the wall-crawler and Krysten Ritter’s Jones is in her late 20s.
4. Had a brief career as the superhero Jewel.
5. She fought the Avengers. Under the mind control powers of the Purple Man (David Tennant’s character in the series), Jones was sent to kill Daredevil, but instead attacked the first person in a red costume, which happened to be the scarlet witch. After they freed her from her mind control, they offered her a spot on the team, to which she declined. While the show is set in the same shared universe as the Avengers, it’s unlikely for a crossover to happen, at least for the time being.
6. Took up the superhero mantel of Nightress.
7. Worked for the Daily Bugle, but quit because of a disagreement with J. Jonah Jameson on costumed heroes.
8. Married Luke Cage. A relationship has been hinted at in the first episodes of the series, but I don’t think we will see a wedding just yet.
9. Eventually joins the New Avengers. Appears as an ally to her husband’s (Luke Cage) team the Mighty Avengers.
10. Has the power to fly. We haven’t seen this yet in the series, so who knows where this could go.
11. To help defend herself against the Purple Man’s mind control, Jean Grey of the X-Men created mental barriers to shield Jessica Jones from psychic attacks.
