I saw Jesse Malin open for Cheap Trick the other night at the Capitol Theatre and it was awesome.
Malin’s songs are gritty snapshots of America that bring to mind early Springsteen. His voice is fabulous and he’s a generous performer who makes the audience feel that they’re a vital part of the show. He knows how to relate to a crowd and his work is so redolent with honesty and integrity, he’s the kind of artist you immediately miss when his set’s over.
Flanked by only by a guitarist, Malin’s two man attack was fabulous–he stormed through his set with passion and heart and when he came onstage later to play with Cheap Trick, everybody was happy to see him again.
Here are some of my favorite shots of the night.
