Jack White Denies Ever Agreeing To Do Anything With The Libertines; Band Still Needs A Producer For Their New Record

Written by:

Things just got a little weird between Jack White and The Libertines.

But according to Jack White, there never was anything between the two camps in the first place.

So, the weirdness may just be on the Libertines’s end.

Or, more specifically, Pete Doherty’s end.

Stereo Embers reported yesterday that in an interview with the French television station D8, Doherty revealed that White had expressed interest in producing the band’s long-awaited third record.

“Jack White says he’d like to do it…” he said. “I’d love him to do it, it would be amazing, but I don’t want to get too hopeful…”

However, hot on the heels of Doherty’s comments, a Jack White spokesman contacted the NME and swiftly denied that any interest was ever expressed by White about the project.

Although Doherty has yet to comment, that means the band still has no producer for their upcoming album.

Mick Jones of the Clash helmed the first two records, and although The Libertines have expressed the desire to go somewhere different sonically, we think Jones would be the man for the job.
