IFC broke a lot of hearts earlier this week when they announced that they would not be renewing “Garfunkel and Oates” for a second season.
Centered around the singing duo of Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome, the freshman show received positive reviews and was often compared to “Flight Of The Conchords.”
The two women landed the show on the strength of their viral comedy folk videos like “Pregnant Women Are Smug” and “Self Esteem” and having “Garfunkel And Oates” in their lineup was a milestone for IFC, as it was the first comedic show on the network to be piloted by two women.
Although the critical response was positive, the program–which ended its eight-episode run late last summer–wasn’t pulling in the kind of ratings (140,000 viewers per week) that would warrant a second season. Fans of Micucci and Lindhome, who perform (in real life!) regularly as Garfunkel and Oates, took to Twitter to voice their overwhelming support of the show and their displeasure with the network. The Onion AV club even ran a story on the show’s cancellation with the accompanying headline: “IFC Stops Being Cool, Cancels Garfunkel And Oates.”
But all is not lost.
Micucci and Lindhome–both Pennsylvania natives who met while performing at UCB–posted the following message on the Garfunkel and Oates twitter account:
Thank you for all the Twitter love. Sorry we won't be bringing you any more IFC episodes but we have something exciting coming we promise…

They followed that up with the message “Right back at it,” which showed Micucci at the piano, surrounded by a flying-v ukulele and a few puppets. The duo are set to play Las Vegas later this month and there’s a likelihood that more live dates will follow.
As for the exciting something that Micucci and Lindhome are sitting on, a rumor is circulating that “Garfunkel and Oates” might land on another network, like Comedy Central.
