Homemade Rock And Roll: Cody Dickinson Live In New York

Written by:

As a fan of the North Mississippi All-Stars, I know Cody Dickinson primarily as the drummer in the band he co-founded with his brother Luther. I’ve seen a ton of their shows and have always enjoyed when Cody would come out from behind the drum kit and play guitar or his washboard.

Well, when leading his Homemade Band, Cody is front and center and he’s a charming and skilled frontman. Backed by bassist Will Bart, Aubrey McCrady on guitar and Jager Soss on drums, the Homemade band were absolutely fantastic.

The Grammy-nominated musician’s Homemade album is a bluesy tip of the hat to the rich musical lineage of his family and in a live setting, songs like “Goodbye Albuquerque” and “Can’t Feel At Home” were filled with swaggering R&B and rootsy virtuosity.

After the show I had a quick chat with Cody and he was incredibly humble and nice. He was deeply appreciative for the folks who came out to see him and not only that, but he gave me a copy of his new CD.

Sidenote: The soundcheck for the show was filmed for the first-ever Relix Soundcheck Session.
