It’s too soon to get nostalgic for 2024, but one of my favorite shows of last year was Eggy and Dogs In A Pile at the Capitol Theatre in New York.
On a Friday night in late November, the two bands teamed up for an insanely great night of live music.
The New Jersey outfit Dogs In A Pile led the night off with a spirited set that featured tracks from their 2023 Bloom album, plus a newer song called “Lazy Susan” as well as covers by The Kinks, John Brown’s Body and Vince Guaraldi.
The guys have range!
Later, Connecticut’s Eggy hit the stage with a varied and charismatic set of their own that included killer songs like “Here And Now” and “Sweaters For Strawmen,” as well as covers by Elton John, The Grateful Dead and Steely Dan.
The latter two covers were played with Dogs On A Pile and as the two young bands converged to soar through Steely Dan’s “Friday” and the Dead’s “Bird Song,” it was hard not to feel, in spite of these dark times, pretty optimistic about the future.
