Theo Lengyel, who played alto saxophone for the experimental Bay Area metal band Mr. Bungle, has been arrested for murder.
In early December, Lengyel was named as a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend, 61-year-old Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, of Capitola. Herrmann went missing on December 3rd and was last seen that day in Santa Cruz, California. Her family reported her as missing on December 12th after not having had contact with her for over a week.
At the time, the 54-year-old Lengyel refused to cooperate with area police about the investigation, even though Herrmann’s red Toyota was found in front of his El Cerrito home. It’s believed that Lengyel drove his blue Ford pickup truck from his home to Portland after Herrmann vanished.
Capitola officials have now revealed that Lengyel was being investigated because, according to a department press release, “…it became clear that foul play was involved.”
The press release goes on to say that police officers found human remains in an isolated and heavily wooded area of Berkeley’s Tilden Regional Park. The aforementioned remains are currently being processed for DNA results and Lengyel is now booked in the Santa Cruz County jail.
They also revealed that Lengyel also operates under the alias Mylo Stone, although it was not clear in what capacity he uses this name.
Lengyel was in Mr. Bungle for close to a decade. He played on their first demo (The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny) and also appeared on albums like their self-titled major label debut in 1991 and the follow-up Disco Volante.
