Somewhere between the Shirelles and The Misfits you’ll find Beach Day.
Led by the unreasonably charismatic Kimmy Drake, this Hollywood, Florida outfit plays a perfect brand of sun-kissed pop that’s got all the speedbag velocity of The Ramones and the sweetness of everyone from The Supremes to the Shangri-Las.
That being said, it’s no surprise that their clip for “Stay” falls visually somewhere between Rock And Roll High School and Madonna’s “True Blue.”
Directed by Megan Blackburn and edited by Drake, this clip captures the highs and lows of young love and it does so with subtlety, humor and bittersweet bliss.
Taken from their first album Trip Trap Attack, “Stay” is an unforgettably percussive number that finds Drake’s voice gliding through the backbeat with swooning emotional accuracy.
We love it.
And we think you will, too…
