Retro-futurist synth/electro-pop foursome Nightblonde is bringing days of future past to listeners with its gauzily hypnotic, sparkling noir, experimental pop songs that wash like waves through the mind, riding high on bright, triple-tier vocal harmonies, glowing guitar chime, incandescent synth transmissions, a mix of airy female and wistful to sharp male vocals, and New Wave charm. Ryan Breegle (vocals, synths, sampler), formerly of The Lolligags and Tipper Whore, is joined by Jill Townsend (vocals, guitar), Megan Kellar (vocals, bass), and Ben Jacoby (drums) as Nightblonde and their debut album, Numbers, will be delivered on June 3rd via YK Records.
Dreamily drifting debut single “I Belong In Your Arms” is set for release on May 6th. The even-keel bass line undertow, steadily stalwart drum beat, and simmering cymbals percussion anchor the tune while the rest of the sonics languidly aims for the blue sky above. Sweetly lofty female vocals float by like cloudy wisps as light loops of reverb guitar radiate outwards. Breegle, with his voice softened by echo effects, channels Morrissey’s wryly acerbic flair, gently intoning the mordant lines “I was not made for this world / …Invention and technology / They do not put my soul at ease.” What will put the listener in a supine state of mind, however, is this beguiling reverie.
