Charlie Colin, best known as the bassist for the Bay Area band Train has died.
Coliln was 58.
It’s believed that the Grammy Award-winning musician died after slipping in the shower at a friend’s house in Belgium.
Raised in Virginia and Newport Beach, Colin spent his high school years surfing and playing guitar.
After high school, he attended USC then transferred to the Berklee College of Music. After a stint in Singapore as a jingle writer, he headed back to the U.S. and formed The Apostles in San Francisco. The band signed a major label deal and opened shows for Counting Crows.
After the dissolution of the Apostles, three of that band’s members (Colin, Jimmy Staffford and Rob Hotchkiss) went on to form Train with singer Pat Monahan and drummer Scott Underwood.
Colin left Train in 2003 and went on to play in Days Of The New, Painbirds and The Side Deal.
At the time of his death, Colin had moved to Brussels to teach music at a conservatory and was reportedly at work on a score for a movie.
