Commemorating the tenth anniversary of the 2014 Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You, Mercury Studios are re-releasing the film.
Directed by Nickolas Rossi, the movie surveys the career and life of the late singer/songwriter.
Replete with fragments of unfinished Smith compositions as well as previously unreleased material and well-known songs (“Miss Misery” and “Waltz #2”), the movie traverses the terrain of Portland, New York and L.A. as it traces Smith’s rise from indie rock cult hero to Academy Award-nominating prominence. The film also celebrates Smiths’s legacy and the effects his body of work has on musicians, longtime fans and people who are only now discovering him.
In a statement Rossi, writes: “Ten years ago, our film’s worldwide run at festivals and eventual wide release touched audiences and fans on five continents, serving as an homage to Elliott Smith’s unmatched musical legacy. As time has passed, his influence on music and his significance as a cultural icon have only deepened, warranting a renewed spotlight on his life and work.”
Heaven Adores You, which now features a newly cut trailer, will be in select theaters August 6th, which would have been Smith’s 55th birthday.
